Session 1 - Navigating School / 504 Plans

 

Combined patient community session hosted by Andi Callaway and Lexi Grimes. Ms. Grimes led the youth group peer to peer discussion for kids with Nephrotic Syndrome. Topics ranged from how it feels to talk about Nephrotic Syndrome with peers, to medication struggles and side effects, dietary restrictions and weight issues. A simultaneous session was hosted dedicated to caregivers, focused on how to navigate the reality of Nephrotic Syndrome in school, sports, and social circles.

Session 2 - Healthy Eating

 

Session 2 featured a moderated peer to peer group discussion for kids with Nephrotic Syndrome, with simultaneous caregiver session dedicated to healthy and clean eating for kids and adults. Topics included tips for healthy, anti-inflammatory, low salt product alternatives and where to find them, several whole food based, low salt recipes and cooking demonstrations. Participants each received a gift of a healthy culinary item, recipes and information. 

 

The following recipes were featured:

 

  • Crudite Appetizer

  • All Purpose Vinaigrette

  • Roasted Potatoes with Rosemary

  • Roasted Salt Free Chicken

  • Anti-inflammatory Smoothie

  • Three Ingredient Breakfast Crepe

 

Session 3 - June 25th, 2018 - Mindfulness

 

The focus of Session 3 will be Mindfulness. We will address the challenges and stress that come with Nephrotic Syndrome and how to manage them. This session will include expert led instruction on dealing with the emotional challenges of a chronic illness, and offer tools and techniques for managing stress and anger for both children and adults. We will offer an opportunity for a peer to peer breakout session for young adults and children with Nephrotic Syndrome, moderated by Ms. Grimes, and a simultaneous caregiver session for the adults. Camp Arroyo - August 12th, 2018 in Livermore, CA

 

Join us for the second annual Camp Arroyo Day Camp and Family Picnic! This fabulous and fun day is generously offered by the Taylor Family Foundation at NO COST to our patient families. This opportunity gives our Bay Area Nephrotic Syndrome community of patients and families a chance to gather in a safe and carefree environment and enjoy a fun-filled day in the park with each other. Games, a ropes course, swimming, face painting, arts and crafts and more! Open to Bay Area patients diagnosed with NS and their families. Lunch provided.
